Olympians Play Hard Despite Cold

But Succumb to Pink Ladies 0-2 in Season Finale

It started out as a cool, brisk late Fall afternoon (but that would quickly change) as the Olympians met for their rematch against the Pink Ladies.

The Olympians came out at the start of the game with plenty of drive and hustle, both on offense and defense.  The Olympian offensive line, wingers Colette and Erikka and strikers Jamie and Sarah had several nice scoring opportunities early in the first half, including another near goal by Jamie.  Meanwhile the defense, comprised of Amanda, Jordan, Simone and Juliette provided able protection of the Olympian goal.   However, late in the second quarter the Pink Ladies were able to punch through the Olympian defense, get a breakaway and score a goal.  The Olympians continued to fight back hard but as the first half ended the Pink Ladies were on top 1-0.

During the first half of play, the weather took a remarkable change for the worse.   The temperature dropped precipitously and the wind pick up noticeably, producing wind-chill temperatures in the mid 20's and many numb fingers on the Olympian squad.    However, despite the plummeting temperatures and the lack of gloves, the Olympians came out fighting in the second half.  Forwards Tiffany and Emily and midfielder Devon, among others, pressed the attack and had several good scoring opportunities.

And the second half defense of backs Nora, Colette and Casey provided solid defense.  Unfortunately, the Pink Ladies managed to score one more goal in the second half, and as the whistle blew to end the game, the Pink Ladies had this time come out ahead with a 2-0 win.

Special thanks to our four goalkeepers this week, Simone, Jordan, Sarah and Amanda.
